Reduced Fee Programs
The Sixty Plus Program
If you are at least 60 years old and live in Maryland, you may qualify for a program providing you with low cost legal services.  This program works with private attorneys who care about your need for affordable legal assistance.  You will be referred to a local attorney who will charge you a reduced fee.
Free Legal Assistance Programs  For Seniors In Maryland
  • Legal Aid Bureau - You must meet the financial eligibility conditions and certain other conditions to qualify for representation.  
  • Senior Citizens Legal Services programs - Funded under Title 3B of the Older Americans Act, these free legal services are available to Marylanders 60 or older who who have certain types of legal problems.
  • Pro Bono Legal Programs - These are organizations that can refer people who meet the qualifications to lawyers in private practice who have volunteered to handle legal matters without fees.
  • Maryland Senior Legal Hotline    (En Español)  -- The Senior Legal Hotline is a free telephone service for persons living in Maryland aged 60 years or older.

    The types of legal services the Senior Legal Hotline provides most often involve:
  • public benefits
  • Medicare
  • Medical Assistance
  • long term care
  • access to health care
  • health care decision making
  • neglect
  • exploitation
  • housing
  • nutrition (food stamps)
  • utilities
  • consumer protection
  • It does not provide services in:

  • criminal cases
  • "fee-generating" cases
  • traffic court cases
  • The Senior Hotline is open from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.  The number is 1-800-896-4213. Spanish speaking operators are available and most other languages are accommodated by three-way conference calls with professional translators.
